Our Sacred Place
Wat Takhenakvorn — វត្តទក្ខិណាវ័ន-ត្រពាំងឱប — is a cherished Theravāda Buddhist temple serving the spiritual and community life of Trapeang Orb village, Khum Moha Sang, Kampong Speu Province. Its graceful spires rise above the paddied landscape, a quiet beacon of devotion for generations of worshippers.

Like thousands of pagodas anchoring Cambodian village life, this wat is far more than a place of worship — it is a school, a gathering hall, a sanctuary of memory, and the moral heart of the surrounding commune. Monks in saffron robes tend daily to its grounds, offering teachings that have passed unbroken through centuries of Khmer tradition.
What Awaits You
The main sanctuary enshrines a revered gilded Buddha image, flanked by vivid murals depicting Jataka tales and scenes from the life of the Enlightened One. The tiered roof, crowned with graceful finials, embodies classical Khmer ecclesiastical design.
Monks gather at sunrise and sunset for almsgiving and Pali chanting. Witnessing the quiet procession of monks collecting offerings from village households is one of Cambodia's most moving daily rituals, unchanged for over a millennium.
The temple comes alive during Khmer New Year, Pchum Ben (Ancestors' Day), and Visakha Bucha. Lanterns, music, and offerings fill the grounds in joyful merit-making that brings the whole community together in celebration and remembrance.
White stupas dot the temple grounds, each housing the remains of revered monks and community elders. Shaded pathways wind between frangipani and palm, inviting quiet contemplation under the open Cambodian sky.
Young novices and lay students receive Pali scripture instruction and moral education within the temple grounds — a cornerstone of literacy and spiritual formation for families in Moha Sang commune across generations.
Surrounded by the verdant paddy fields and waterways of Kandal Province, just a short journey from Phnom Penh, the temple offers a rare counterpoint to city life — a meditative landscape where birdsong and temple bells share the morning air.

Respect & Mindfulness
Cover shoulders and knees. Lightweight, loose-fitting clothing in neutral colours is both respectful and practical in Cambodia's warm climate.
Always remove shoes before entering any building or hall. Rows of sandals left outside are your cue. Bare feet on temple floors is a sign of humility.
Maintain a calm, quiet demeanour throughout the grounds. Mobile phones should be silenced. This is an active place of worship and meditation.
Photography of the architecture and grounds is generally welcome. Always ask permission before photographing monks, ceremonies, or worshippers at prayer.
Women should avoid physical contact with monks. When offering something, place it on a cloth or nearby surface rather than handing it directly.
Respect the cleanliness of the sacred grounds. Do not bring food into the main halls, carry out any waste. A small donation to the temple is always appreciated.
